Max and the 5th Element

Last month I met Max, when he was walking down Broad Street in Lower Manhattan.

I asked him about this interesting tattoo:

He told me that this, one of his nine tattoos, is an homage to the 1997 Luc Besson film The Fifth Element. "I love that movie," he explained, "It's one of my favorites."

Max credited Chase (Instagram here) at Til Death in Denver with the work.

As a fan of the film myself, I appreciated the tattoo, as well.

Thanks to Max for sharing his cool tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Fiorella Rocks a Sleeve That Illustrates Her Love of Film

Last summer, I ran into a woman named Fiorella near the subway entrance at Greeley Square.

Her tattoo stopped me in my tracks and I just had to speak to her:

And this wraps around her upper arm:

At the bottom of the tattoo is a phrase that reads "What you don't know, you can feel it sometimes."

Fiorella explained that she is a student of film making, starting out from her home in Costa Rica, and continuing her studies here in New York City.

She is a videographer, whose YouTube channel can be viewed here.

The collage of film images in the tattoo include Amadeus (partially visible in the top photo), Charlie Chaplin (top photo), A Clockwork Orange, Jack Nicholson from The Shining and an image from Cinema Paradiso.

She also had images of her family "spliced" into the filmstrip.

Her favorite director is Woody Allen.

She credited the tattoo to Hiram Cordero at 506 Tattoo Studio in San José, Costa Rica.

Thanks to Fiorella for sharing her awesome tattoo with us here on Tattoosday!

Saturday Links: Hello February!

I posted a bunch of links last Saturday and it seemed like the thing to do. So I started this last Sunday and added to it as the week progressed, giving you a snapshot of what interested me in the world of tattoos this past week, as we left January behind, and headed into February.

On Sunday, Artist Joe Capobianco updated us on a back piece he was working on here.

On Monday, "Shanghai" Kate Hellenbrand, one of the longest-tattooing female artists, alerted me to a Kickstarter campaign (here) to raise money for a documentary about her career called "From Voodoo to Vogue".

On Friday, I spotted this piece on xoJane about getting matching tattoos.

On Saturday (today), I looked back and said, "Really, only three things?" It's a little misleading, as I have a lot of cool stuff in the works, including a great contest next week for readers.Y'all come back now, ya' hear?
